Can't really see a problem with those changes, though if Ballance fails again that should be it for him.

Can't really remember Compton's overall stuff for England, can only remember him in New Zealand.

Won't lie, I'm absolutely stunned about Ian BELL, in spite of recent poor form.

We are so good we can afford to name a specialised slip fielder in the squad.

Isn’t Nick Compton South African born?

Yes he is.

We end up with so many off these South African born players.

Ian Bell has been England's best and most classy Ashes batsman after the 2005 series until now so I am DELIGHTED to see him JETTISONED.

Ballance coming back in is an odd one

Re: England squad for SA tour
Don't understand why they've used so many different openers, to just revert back to Compton.

Ballance will just be a walking wicket against the SA pace attack.

Why drop Bell for him? Bell was 3rd highest run scorer against Pakistan. On that basis drop every batsman apart from Cook , Root and Taylor.

Don't get why Patel is in and Rashid is out.

Re: England squad for SA tour
They MUST be looking at ROOT or TAYLOR for the number 3 BERTH.

BALLANCE is a number 5, always has been. His CONVERSION went fine against attacks lacking real PACE, but there's zero point leaving him out of a tour where he likely would have made a stackload of runs, and bringing him back at 3 for a series against the (second) best pace attack around.

Compton Bats at 3 mostly now I think,

But will be too much for Hales to open and him 3.

That's why I find the BELL decision strange, W00ders.

I imagine WOAKES will play as the 3rd seamer, because he can bat.

Cook
Compton
Root
Taylor
Ballance
Stokes
Bairstow
Ali
Jordan
Broad
Anderson

I think that's what they will go.

Personally I would have Butler and Woakes instead of Bairstow and Jordan from that squad
